Terrain
2008
Photography,
Los Angeles, USA
In the lost hills surrounding Los Angeles, gray concrete body parts – heads and arms – emerge from the earth, evoking the memory of human history embedded in these ancient soils. The body parts, cast from the artist’s own mold, interrupt the otherwise quiet, abandoned landscape and emphasize the human presence in a space of emptiness that may have once been used as a transit space, but is now visited primarily for recreation and has no clear ownership. By placing her own body forms in the terrain, the artist marks her presence and leaves a sacrament of time and existence. Through this act, she brings life and immediacy to a timeless place that feels detached from any specific moment, illuminating it with a spark of hope and human embrace.
