Loss of Hearing
Video/Film – 2008
DV Cam, 13.37 min
Los Angeles, USA
Set against the minimalist backdrop of a white cube, Loss of Hearing satirizes the shallow nature of sitcom-style storytelling in mass media, using irony and provocation to highlight its hollowness. Despite the humor, a thread of subtle romanticism runs beneath the surface. The stark studio environment—crafted solely with light and sound—intentionally strips traditional narrative elements bare, exaggerating them for a playful critique.
At the heart of the plot is the MANAGER MAN, who flees the tensions of his relationship by indulging in a string of affairs. Frustrated by his disloyalty, the MANAGER WOMAN struggles to assert control over him. Meanwhile, the TWO SISTERS—directionless and searching—dream of becoming surfers, spending their days in a shadowy surf shop surrounded by questionable characters.
