Jedi
Photography – 2015
C-Print
110 × 194.5 cm (43.3 × 76.6 in)
The photograph Jedi was taken at El Fuerte de Samaipata, a historic site once utilized by the Guarani and Inca and in 1998 designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Adorned with a cactus sword and ninja attire reminiscent of the Jedi knights from the Star Wars (1977–ongoing) universe, Marcin presents herself as a resilient fighter and intrepid traveler and evokes the theme of women’s empowerment. While the authority’s preservation of the location aims to maintain its authenticity, Marcin’s performance symbolizes a departure from traditional narratives, signaling the evolution and transformation of historical values.
