Nadja Verena Marcin is selected as the 2022 Artist-in-Residence for the European Media Art Platform (EMAP) at Onassis Stegi in Athens. As one of 15 media artists and artist groups chosen for this international initiative, Marcin takes part in a fully funded two-month residency, culminating in a series of group exhibitions across Europe over the next three years.

During her residency, Marcin is developing and presenting #SOPHYGRAY, a feminist audio bot conceived in response to the pandemic-era rise of subservient digital assistants like Alexa and Siri. The project challenges the gendered dynamics embedded in these technologies by replacing conventional, passive responses with radical ideas from feminist thinkers such as bell hooks, Donna Haraway, Silvia Federici, Audre Lorde, and Anna L. Tsing.

The project aims to evolve into a mobile app, offering a more accessible platform for reimagining how voice technology intersects with gender and power. By asking, “What would it look like to rewire the modus operandi of all service apps?” the project opens a broader conversation about the intersections of technology, gender, and power.
