On February 1, 2023, at 7 PM, Nadja Verena Marcin presents #SOPHYGRAY as an interactive installation and live performance at the Upper Stage of the Onassis Stegi Cultural Center in Athens, marking the culmination of her EMAP residency. This multimedia event critically examines AI biases, transforming the feminist audio bot’s conversations into a theatrical experience through movement, text, and audience interaction. Marcin, joined by two dancers, embodies the bot and iconic sci-fi figures such as the robot from Metropolis (1927), Ava from Ex Machina (2014), and Dolores from Westworld (2016), creating a vivid exploration of gender and technology.

The performance draws on #SOPHYGRAY’s dialogues and workshops held in Berlin, New York, and Athens, weaving together conversations about identity, art, and feminism. Visitors are invited to interact with the installation and scan a code to experience the bot on their own devices, bridging the gap between technology and human engagement. By combining movement, text, and audience interaction, the event offers a powerful critique of AI’s gendered stereotypes and challenges the roles technology plays in shaping societal norms.

The event also celebrates the launch of the #SOPHYGRAY app, now available on iOS and Google Play, allowing users to engage with feminist dialogues and explore AI from a radically different perspective. Together, the installation and app create a multidimensional critique of technology’s influence on society and gender.
