Nadja Verena Marcin has been awarded a $25,000 New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) grant for her first feature film, Pocahontas Returns, currently in pre-production and sponsored by the New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA). The film explores the tensions between post-colonial patriarchy, the revival of indigenous cultures, and the rise of female self-awareness, blending performance art and Telenovela aesthetics. Marcin describes the project as a tribute to the complexities and changes of our time, visualizing the ambiguities of modern existence through its paradoxical title, Pocahontas Returns.
